Our comprehensive learning and development programme offers many training opportunities, allowing you to advance, improve, and document your professional skills continually.

Our volunteers have a unique view of how we work, and it is essential that they can express this and feed it into our decision-making. We ensure that volunteers can discuss any issues relating to their volunteering and provide feedback on how they are doing.

Volunteers at SIG have full access to the training and development opportunities that form our Workforce Development Strategy. All volunteers have access to our independent Employee Assistance Programme, which provides advice and support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We also have a suite of volunteer policies and procedures.

Informally:
A staff member will always be available during their time volunteering to discuss any immediate issues and help resolve problems.

Formally:
During the induction period, volunteers meet their supervisor weekly for the first six weeks to discuss progress and experience at SIG. After six weeks, the meeting frequency moves to bi-monthly, and volunteers receive a bi-annual review, allowing reflection on the previous six months and planning for the next six months, including training needs.

Comments

When I decided that I would like to find out about recovery roles, many charities and organisations came up on my Search engine.
It was not only Social Interest Group’s ethos that struck a chord with me, but the website was inviting and easy for me to navigate.
I sent an email to People and Culture to say that I was interested in recovery work but didn’t really know what to do about it!
I was contacted swiftly and met with kindness and respect.
When I applied to be a volunteer, I also liaised with someone at People and Culture and had a video call too. I was able to ask questions as the video caller was very patient and welcoming. This meant that before I started my volunteering, I already felt valued by Social Interest Group.
